On-call tools usually charge per responder. We charge per monitor, from €0.50 to €0.75, so adding a person to the rotation costs nothing.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is Spectate?

Spectate is an uptime monitoring and incident management platform from the Netherlands. It checks websites, APIs, servers, certificates and domains, pages the right person through escalation paths and on-call schedules, runs incidents with Slack, and keeps customers informed with status pages. One subscription covers all of it, with your whole team included.

How much does Spectate cost?

You pay per monitor or host: €0.75 on Starter (from 20, €15 a month), €0.60 on Team (from 80, €48 a month) and €0.50 on Business (from 250, €125 a month), excluding VAT. Yearly plans cost 10 months. Team members are free on Team and Business. There is a 14-day trial without a credit card, and no free plan.

Where is my data stored?

Spectate is built and run by a Dutch company, and your account data, monitors, alerts and incidents are stored in the EU. Checks themselves run from the region you pick per monitor (Europe, North America, Asia or Oceania). Billing goes through Vatly, an EU merchant of record. The subprocessors page lists every provider and where it runs.

Does Spectate replace PagerDuty or Opsgenie?

For most small and mid-sized teams, yes. Spectate has on-call schedules with rotations and overrides, escalation paths with branches and working hours, and pages by email, SMS and phone call with press 1 to acknowledge. It doesn't charge per responder. Very large organisations with complex service catalogues may still need an enterprise tool.

Can I use my own domain for the status page?

Yes, on every plan. Point a CNAME at your page's own target and Spectate verifies the domain and issues the TLS certificate automatically. Pages can also be password protected, and from the Team plan made private with an access link.

How quickly will I know when my site is down?

Monitors are checked every 30 seconds on Team and Business and every 60 seconds on Starter. A failed check is repeated a few seconds later from the same region, and a second failure fires the alert straight away through your escalation path.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for uptime, SSL, DNS, mail or domain monitoring: those run from our checkers. For server metrics (CPU, memory, disks, network) you install the small open-source agent with one command.
