FAQ

Uptime and SLAs

How much downtime is 99.9% uptime?

99.9% (three nines) allows about 43 minutes and 50 seconds of downtime a month, 10 minutes a week, or 8 hours and 46 minutes a year.

How much downtime is 99.99% uptime?

99.99% (four nines) allows about 4 minutes and 23 seconds a month, 1 minute a week, or 52 minutes and 36 seconds a year. Few teams reach it without automated failover.

How is uptime measured?

A monitor checks the service at a fixed interval, for example every 30 seconds. Uptime is the share of checks that succeeded over a period. Shorter intervals catch short outages that longer ones miss.

Does planned maintenance count as downtime?

That depends on your SLA. Most SLAs exclude maintenance announced in advance. Pause your monitors or announce a maintenance window on your status page so it's clear to your customers.
