Spectate vs Opsgenie

Opsgenie is shutting down. Move on-call to Spectate.

Opsgenie support ends on 5 April 2027. Spectate gives you on-call rotations, escalation paths, phone calls and incidents, plus the monitoring and status pages, without moving into Jira.

The short version

Which one fits you

Opsgenie: Opsgenie is Atlassian's alerting and on-call product. Atlassian stopped selling it on 4 June 2025 and ends support on 5 April 2027, when access shuts off and data that wasn't migrated is deleted. Atlassian points customers to Jira Service Management.

Choose Spectate when

  • You want to leave Opsgenie for a standalone on-call tool, not move into Jira Service Management.
  • You want on-call for your whole team without per-user licences.
  • You want uptime, DNS, mail and server monitoring next to on-call.
  • You want status pages with subscribers and custom domains included.

Choose Opsgenie when

  • You already use Jira Service Management: Atlassian's own migration path keeps alerts, on-call and incidents next to your tickets.
  • You need Atlassian's in-app migration tool to carry over schedules and history automatically.
  • You need SSO, a public API and Atlassian's compliance programme.

Moving from Opsgenie

Most teams run both side by side for a week. Email help@spectate.net if you'd like a hand.

  1. 01Start a 14-day trial; no card needed. It runs on Team, with on-call schedules and escalation paths.
  2. 02Recreate your schedules (rotations, handoff times, overrides) and escalation paths. There is no Opsgenie importer; help@spectate.net can help with larger setups.
  3. 03Point your monitoring at Spectate: add uptime monitors, or send Grafana, Prometheus Alertmanager, Sentry or webhook alerts to an alert source.
  4. 04Have everyone add a phone number and connect Slack or Telegram, then run both side by side until you switch off Opsgenie, well before 5 April 2027.
FAQ

Spectate and Opsgenie

When does Opsgenie shut down?

Atlassian stopped selling Opsgenie on 4 June 2025. Support ends on 5 April 2027: access shuts off and data that wasn't migrated is deleted. Renewals are only possible for terms that end before that date.

Where should I migrate from Opsgenie?

Atlassian recommends Jira Service Management. If you don't want to move into Jira, a standalone tool such as Spectate covers on-call, escalation, phone alerts and incidents, plus uptime monitoring and status pages.

Can I import my Opsgenie schedules into Spectate?

There is no importer. Schedules, overrides and escalation paths take a few minutes each to recreate, and help@spectate.net can help you move a larger setup.

Is Spectate cheaper than Opsgenie?

For five responders, yes: Spectate Team is €48 a month for unlimited members and includes 80 monitors, against $120.75 a month for five users on Opsgenie Standard. Opsgenie can't be bought by new customers anymore.

Does Spectate wake people up like Opsgenie?

Yes. Spectate pages whoever is on call by email, SMS and phone call, and they press 1 to acknowledge. Acknowledging stops the escalation; otherwise it moves to the next step.
