The short version

Which one fits you

Hyperping: Hyperping is an uptime monitoring and status page service with browser checks, cron healthchecks, server agents and on-call schedules. Plans include a set number of seats, with extra seats charged per month.

Choose Spectate when

  • You want unlimited members instead of counting seats.
  • You want more status pages and subscribers: Team has 5 pages and 2,500 subscribers, Hyperping Essentials 1 page and 100.
  • You want private and password-protected status pages without moving to a larger plan.
  • You want on-call for the whole team without paying per seat.
  • You want incidents with roles, postmortems and a Slack channel per incident.

Choose Hyperping when

  • You need browser checks or cron healthchecks, which Spectate doesn't have.
  • You want a free plan: Hyperping's covers 20 monitors.
  • You need 20s checks (Hyperping Business) or SAML SSO (from Pro).
  • You want each monitor checked from several locations.

FAQ

Spectate and Hyperping

Is Spectate cheaper than Hyperping?

For 50 monitors and 5 people, they cost about the same: €40 a month billed yearly on Spectate Team, about $38 on Hyperping Essentials with two extra seats. Spectate includes unlimited members, 5 status pages, 2,500 subscribers and private pages at that price.

Can I import my monitors from Hyperping?

There is no importer. Recreating a monitor takes a minute or two, and help@spectate.net can help with a longer list.

Does Spectate have browser checks or cron monitoring?

No. Spectate checks HTTP(S) with keywords, ping, TCP, DNS, SMTP, IMAP and POP3, and takes a screenshot when an HTTP(S) monitor goes down. If you rely on browser checks or cron healthchecks, Hyperping covers those.

Are both companies in the EU?

Yes. Hyperping is based in Paris and Spectate in the Netherlands. Spectate bills in euros, with VAT handled.
